1 dead in Fairfield after 'apparent shooting': Essex County prosecutor

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – An “apparent shooting incident” claimed the life of one person in Fairfield on Friday, authorities said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit responded to Two Bridges Road in Fairfield and determined one person was dead upon arrival, authorities said.

The police investigation is ongoing. A spokesman for the public prosecutor's office said no further information was initially available.

The Fairfield Police Department issued the following statement Friday at 1 p.m.:

“There is heavy police deployment at the eastern end of the city near the Jose Tejas, Ramada Inn area. Please stay away from the area and we ask that you do not call police headquarters and ask for information. All accurate information will be provided here and by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office as quickly as possible.”
