15 days until the 2024 election: Today is the deadline to register to vote

PennLive is counting down the days the election on November 5, 2024. This is what you need to know today:

Today, October 21st, is the last day to register for November 5th in Pennsylvania. You can register online. As of today, the registration period is closed until November 6th.

If you are not sure whether you are registered, check your driver's license or state ID number on the U.S. Department of State website. If you have moved since the last election, you will need to register again using your new address.

Voting centers in central Pennsylvania have reported an increase in residents stopping by for voter services. For example, the Cumberland County Bureau of Elections has reached out to thousands of people for help, according to Samantha G. Krepps, communications director for Cumberland County.

How to vote in Pennsylvania

Election day is Tuesday, November 5th. Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you are ready to vote by 8 p.m., you can still vote.

You must vote at the polling station where you are registered. The Pennsylvania Department of State has an online search tool that can tell you where this is. If you have moved since the last election, you will need to register again using your new address.

If you do not wish to vote in person, you do not have to do so, but the deadline to request an absentee or absentee ballot is Tuesday, October 29th at 5:00 p.m. Any registered voter can request an absentee ballot. Likewise, registered voters who are unable to get to their polling place on Election Day due to illness, disability, work or travel may vote by mail.

Carefully follow the instructions for returning a ballot. Required steps include using a confidential envelope and signing and dating an outer envelope.

Emergency mail-in ballots for short-term issues are available from October 30 through Election Day.

Only first-time voters need to show identification at a polling station.
