2024 Rock Hall Inductions: Guitar hero Peter Frampton shows the way with kindness, grace and hot licks

Roger Daltrey, the Who's legendary frontman, said he was “amazed” that Frampton wasn't recorded 35 years ago. Frampton was first recorded in 1998.

“It's about time!” Daltrey said, reminding the audience that it was “easier to name the people he didn't work with than the people he did work with.” Daltrey called Frampton a “restless one Soul” and a “survivor flitting from tape to tape” and sent him a humble, hilarious speech before his introduction.

Video montages heavily sampled from his recent “Positively Thankful Tour” offered a time capsule of the boy from Kent, England, through the eras as a teenage heartthrob, humble pie shredder, stadium filler, David Bowie bandleader and even “Sgt. Pepper band member” alongside the Bee Gees.

Tributes from fellow musicians said Frampton deserved to be included in the pantheon of guitar greats such as Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. No lies discovered.

Frampton sang “Baby (Somethin's Happening)” with lyrics that were absolutely memorable: “Okay, something's happening / Hold on tight, it might be a flash / Turn on the lights, there's something moving / I can't at night.” “Sleep, my heart keeps missing a beat.”

The audience knew what was coming next. How could it not? With “Do You Feel Like We Do” and the talkbox solo from “Frampton Comes Alive!” to cheers and fanfare.

He and his band Pat Bergeson (guitar), Alison Prestwood (bass), Rob Arthur (keyboards) and Dan Wojciechowski (drums) were joined by fan and ardent supporter Keith Urban.

Frampton called the honor “fantastic” and encouraged the Cleveland crowd to sing along. He and Urban exchanged some tasty guitar licks. It was a spine-tingling guitar freakout. It was the early precursor to the evening's performance.

“I'm a really lucky guy to have had this amazing career fueled by my passion for playing guitar,” said Frampton, thanking The Who, Bill Wyman, producer Glyn Johns, George Harrison, Herb Alpert and a host of ” legendary player”. .”

He also thanked David Bowie, who essentially revived Frampton's career after an “inevitable crash” following “Frampton Comes Alive!” came and went. Bowie, a schoolmate from back then, took him with him on the “Glass Spider Tour” in 1987 as guitarist and bandleader and gave the guitar thug a second appearance.
