4-star big man Xavion Staton commits to Cougars – Deseret News

Kevin Young's recruiting success at BYU continues to grow – literally.

Four-star big man Xavion Staton has committed to the Cougars. He announced this on Monday evening on the 247 Sports live stream. He chose BYU over fellow finalists Michigan, UNLV and Stanford.

The 6-foot-10, 210-pound Las Vegas product is considered the No. 2 center in the country according to 247 Sports and the No. 23 prospect overall in the Class of 2025. Staton's .9874 overall score of 247 is the highest of any Cougars commit in the program history.

“He is a highly talented and high-profile big man who is one of the best rim protectors in the country,” wrote Travis Branham, senior basketball analyst for 247 Sports. “He also showed that he has the ability to play offensively and score from the three-point line. Staton's best basketball years are still ahead of him as he gets stronger and continues to put in time on the court. Nevertheless, he is already considered one of the best players of the 2025 class.”

Staton is BYU's second commitment of 2025, joining 4-star power forward Chamberlain Burgess, who signed with the Cougars on October 30.

The class of 2025 could be a huge group for BYU. In addition to signing Staton and Burgess, Young and his staff are among the favorite targets of 4-star point guard JJ Mandaquit and consensus No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa, who multiple insiders say is announcing his commitment to the Cougars in the near future .
