Carson Beck predicted he would end up with the AFC team because he desperately needed a franchise quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders will continue their miserable season on Sunday as the team travels to Paycor Stadium to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 9. Antonio Pierce's squad is 2-6 and has lost four straight games after a 2-2 start.

Although the defense hasn't been spectacular, Luke Getsy's offense is the main reason for the team's struggles. The unit has yet to score 30 points in a game and is averaging just 18 points per game, ranking in the bottom ten in the NFL.

Incompetent quarterback play has plagued the Raiders again in 2024, as Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell started both games and didn't inspire much confidence.

Minshew was on the bench in Week 5, but reclaimed his starting spot in the first half of the Raiders' Week 7 matchup against the Rams after O'Connell left the game with an injury. The former Purdue star will be out for a few more weeks with a thumb injury, so Minshew will continue to serve as the starter.

It's clear that neither Minshew nor O'Connell are the long-term answer at quarterback for Las Vegas, so Yardbarker's Seth Trachtman believes the franchise should make a top-ten pick on Georgia signalman Carson Beck.

Beck struggled to start the season, but Beggars can't be a pick for a Raiders team without a serviceable quarterback. His accuracy has declined this year, although Beck had nearly 4,000 passing yards and 24 touchdowns last season with strong physical passing tools.

Beck had an efficient 2023 season but has regressed in 2024 and doesn't look like an NFL-ready player. The 22-year-old has already surpassed his interception total from last year, throwing three interceptions in Georgia's game against the Florida Gators on Saturday.

As Trachtman noted, Beck's accuracy has plummeted, but his inability to quickly read and analyze defenses is more concerning. The two-year starter has been fooled by hidden coverages many times this season, resulting in costly turnovers.

The Raiders are desperate for a competent quarterback, but general manager Tom Telesco shouldn't go after a signal-caller in Round 1. If the top options at the position are no longer on the field by the time Las Vegas kicks off, Telesco should choose the best player available and avoid giving Carson Beck a valuable draft pick.
