Is Brian Robinson Jr. playing today? Full injury update for Commanders RB in Week 9

Brian Robinson Jr. has proven to be a valuable part of the Washington Commanders' offensive strategy this season. The running back provides a physical presence as part of his outstanding partnership with Austin Ekeler. He's also getting the carries he needs after becoming disillusioned under former play-caller Eric Bieniemy.

Robinson's status for Week 9 was in doubt given Washington's trip to the New York Giants. The former third-round pick has already missed one game all season due to knee problems. The powers that be took every precaution possible throughout the week as another complication loomed.

The device from Alabama was only used to a limited extent in practice due to a problem with the hamstring muscles. Robinson was listed as questionable for the collision and commanders also appointed Chris Rodriguez Jr. to address additional concerns.

Nothing has been officially confirmed by the team yet, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport provided some additional clarification that should ease fans' concerns. The insider revealed that the Commanders plan to take on Robinson, although they will wait to see how the player feels this morning before making their final decision.

Having Robinson available will be a huge advantage compared to a strong Giants defensive front. It remains to be seen how much he can present.

Having him out there means New York will have to account for his presence at all times. That should open up new opportunities in the passing game if the Commanders offensive line can limit players like Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence II and Azeez Ojulari.

It's unlikely the Commanders will give Robinson 20 touches in this game. Kliff Kingsbury will have to pick his spots with the team's most productive running back. Luckily for the play-caller, he can also rely on Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols when something is lacking in terms of explosiveness.

On and off the field around the commanders, the dynamic is increasing. Revelations that this once-proud franchise has become an attractive destination for gamers is evidence of how things are evolving under the new regime. Getting complacent isn't an option, especially considering Washington hasn't had the best record at MetLife Stadium in recent seasons.

Robinson is a big part of the team's future, so the Commanders will play it safe and see how he does in the first few meetings. If there is even the slightest doubt, Kingsbury and head coach Dan Quinn will not hesitate to take him out of the firing line.

All signs point to Robinson running. How much he can contribute is another question.
