Chappell Roan's lyrics to “The Giver” are a flirty invitation

Chappell Roan's lyrics to “The Giver” are a flirty invitation

On Saturday, November 3, Chappell Roan gave an electrifying rendition of their hit “Pink Pony Club.” Saturday Night Live before debuting a brand new country club song.

The new track, titled “The Giver,” continues to explore some of Roan’s favorite themes: girls loving girls. She took the stage with her all-female band, wearing a denim and gingham print top and shorts with cowboy boots and her signature drag-inspired makeup look. Her red wig for the evening was laced with a silver lock that conjured visions of country star Bonnie Raitt.

It's no surprise that Roan reveals something special on the comedy sketch show. Ahead of her performance, she shared a screenshot of an old post she made under her former stage name vowing to perform there Saturday Night Live.

In the song's chorus, Roan sings, “I get the job done,” and it's no secret what job she's singing about.

“All the country boys say you know how to threaten a woman,” Roan said playfully during the musical interlude. “Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right. She gets the job done.”

In the lyrics of the new song's verses, Roan references hunting lodges, bars and country boys who don't know what they're doing, presumably in the bedroom. But she definitely does. Here are the full lyrics:

Verse One
There are no antlers hanging on the walls
But I certainly know mating calls
The stalls in the bars on a Friday evening
I know the boys might need a map
But I can close my eyes
And you have me wrapped around your fingers like that

Pre-chorus
So baby
When the work needs to be done
Call me “baby”

choir
Because you don't have to tell me
It's just in my nature
So take it like a taker 'cause, baby, I'm a giver
There's no need to help me 'cause baby I'm delivering
This is not a fellow countryman giving up
I'll do the work
I'll do the work

Verse Two
Girl, I don't need a pickup truck
Revvin' loud to pick you up
Because how I love is how I touch
And in the mall, City of Dreams
Good luck finding a man who has the means to do that
To the rhinestone cowgirl all night long

Pre-chorus
So baby
If you've never had one
Call me “baby”

choir

Because you don't have to tell me
It's just in my nature
So take it like a taker 'cause, baby, I'm a giver
There's no need to help me 'cause baby I'm delivering
This is not a fellow countryman giving up
I'll do the work
I'll do the work

Bridge

Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na-na (She gets the job done)
All of you from the country say you know how to treat a woman, right?

choir
Because you don't have to tell me
It's just in my nature
So take it like a taker 'cause, baby, I'm a giver
There's no need to help me 'cause baby I'm delivering
There is no future for a quitter
I'll do the work
I'll do the work

Outro

I'll do the work
I'll do the work
Well, I'll do the work
Yes, ma'am, yes, I do
You're welcome
