Tornado warning active for several Oklahoma counties until 8 p.m

Another round of severe, possibly tornado-like thunderstorms moved across central Oklahoma on Sunday, just hours after an overnight system dropped tornadoes across the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

A tornado warning is active for most of central Oklahoma until 8 p.m. There is currently a tornado warning in effect for Tillman and Kiowa counties.

TORNADO WATCH – Caddo, Canada, Carter, Cleveland, Garvin, Grady, Hughes, Jefferson, Lincoln, Love, McClain, Murray, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Seminole and Stephens Counties until 8 p.m

TORNADO WATCH – Hughes and Pontotoc County until 1:00 a.m

TORNADO WATCH – Carter, Jefferson, Love, Murray and Okfuskee Counties until 1:00 a.m

Chief Meteorologist David Payne said there is a moderate risk of severe weather Sunday afternoon through midnight, particularly along and east of I-44.

“The tornado threat will be highest southeast of the OKC metro, but still in the moderate category throughout the southeast metro. Be weather conscious today!”

Most of the state will see rain, with some parts experiencing severe storms in the afternoon.

Several waves of rain and storms are expected, and once severe, hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible.

What is the weather like on Sunday in Oklahoma?

Another large storm area appeared overnight. Some of these storms are severe and produce heavy rainfall.

Additional storms are expected to develop later Sunday and into Monday night.

While the drought grabs headlines, flooding will be a concern in the areas with the highest totals.

As of Sunday morning, rainfall rates were up to 7 inches per hour, with over 5 inches of rain falling.

Overnight lows will linger in the low 60s.
