Here are the winners of the New York City Marathon: NPR

Abdi Nageeye, 35, of the Netherlands, claimed victory in the men's race at the New York City Marathon on Sunday with a time of 2:07:39. It was his fourth appearance at the Big Apple Run and his first win in the event.

In previous years he finished fifth in 2021 with a time of 2:11:39; third with 2:10:31 in 2022; and fourth with 2:10:21 in 2023.

“At the finish line I thought: Am I dreaming? I won New York,” Nageeye told The Associated Press. Six seconds later, 2022 winner Evans Chebet of Kenya finished second.

Meanwhile, Sheila Chepkirui, 33, of Kenya, took first place in the women's race in her New York City Marathon debut. She reached the finish line in 2:24.35. Her next opponent and defending champion, Hellen Obiri, was almost 15 seconds behind.

“When we had about 600 meters to go, I said to myself: I have to push harder. When I saw that Hellen wasn't coming, I knew I was going to win and I was so happy,” Chepkirui told the AP.

Daniel Romanchuk and Susannah Scaroni – both from the USA – won in the men's and women's wheelchair classes, respectively. Romanchuk, 26, of Maryland, finished in 1:36:31, while Scaroni, 33, of Washington state, took first place among women with a time of 1:48:05.

Other top Americans in the marathon included Conner Mantz and Sara Vaughn – both placing sixth in the men's and women's categories, respectively.

Some notable celebrities also took part in the race, including actor Randall Park Fresh off the boat; Actress Jennifer Connelly Top Gun: Maverick and YouTube star Casey Neistat.

The 26.2-mile race spanned all five boroughs – starting in Staten Island and ending in Central Park. This year it was predicted to attract 50,000 participants from over 150 countries.
