Excessive rainfall and isolated severe storms possible.

QUAD CITIES, IA/Illinois. (KWQC) – One round down, a few more to go. Showers will continue to move through the region this afternoon. As the evening progresses, you can expect rain shower activity to decrease. However, this break won't last long as more active weather returns overnight.

Another round of rain will occur tonight and continue into Monday, dropping another 0.75 to 2.00 inches of new precipitation. On Monday we expect a short break at lunchtime. If we see sunshine during this time, our temperatures could approach the low 70s. If this scenario occurs, a threat of severe weather could occur in the afternoon and evening hours. On the contrary, if cloud cover persists, an isolated threat of severe weather is possible, particularly south of the I-80 corridor.

In addition to the potential for some strong storms, very heavy rainfall is expected, especially on Monday night. Areas east of the river could see 2 to 4 inches of additional rainfall. While this will significantly alleviate our drought, aerial flooding is possible in low lying areas, streets and basements. Remember never to drive through flooded roads.

This risk of severe weather, coupled with periods of heavy rain, has led to one FIRST ALARM DAY Monday.

The Storm Prediction Center has areas along and south of I-80 at a Minor or Level 1 risk. The primary threats will be strong winds, small hail and torrential rain. Flooding could become a problem. When all is said and done and the showers end Tuesday morning, we could see totals of up to 4″+ in some locations. Our weather pattern returns to a more normal regime by mid-week. Rain chances return as we start the weekend.
