P'nut, the squirrel's heartbroken owner, collapses over the almond in his pocket: “Just a little reminder”

A forgotten almond brought P'nut the squirrel's grieving owner to tears.

Mark Longo, whose furry internet sensation was euthanized by New York state officials after a controversial raid on his upstate farm, said it was P'nut's favorite snack.

“P'nut spread his tonsils all over my house, all over my pants and my clothes,” Longo said in an exclusive interview with the Post this week. “It’s just a little reminder that he’s always here.”

Longo and his wife Daniela have been grieving since the state Department of Environmental Protection raided their 350-acre farm and animal shelter near Elmira and then euthanized P'nut and his raccoon friend Fred over alleged rabies concerns.

Demanding answers, the Longos blamed a “rat” who tipped off the DEC and speculated that it was someone jealous of the couple's financial success.

P'nut had gone viral online and garnered hordes of followers, while also helping to drive traffic to Longos' hot OnlyFans account – which helped the couple fund the purchase of the non-profit animal sanctuary P'nut's Freedom Farm.

The upstate farm is home to hundreds of rescued animals, including ducks, chickens, alpacas, sheep, donkeys, pigs and rabbits – but P'nut and Fred were their pets.

Mark Longo said he rescued P'nut the squirrel about seven years ago and became part of the family at their farm and animal shelter in upstate New York. AP

Longo said it was illegal to house a squirrel and a raccoon, but he didn't have the “heart” to keep P'nut – whom he had had for more than seven years – and Fred, who arrived about four months ago, out.

The DEC said the raid was in response to complaints about the raccoon and claims P'nut bit one of the officers during the raid.

However, the agency has not released the results of the rabies test conducted on the two animals.

Gov. Kathy Hochul's office also has not responded to multiple repeated requests for comment from The Post.

P'nut's death sparked a flood of donations, and an online fundraising page brought in well over $158,000 for the Longos.

“I don’t want his life to be known for this,” Mark Longo told The Post of P’nut. “I want his life to be, you know, a happy, joyful time for everyone, looking back and seeing what he did over the years and making this place something that keeps his legacy alive . ”

He said it was a jolt to stumble upon P'nut's snack in his bag.

“I want to bring attention to this because it will probably make me cry,” he said.
