Trump boasts, “Every rally is full,” as the camera pans to empty seats

An experienced cameraman fact-checked Donald Trump live.

During his rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday evening, Trump boasted: “We've had the largest rallies in the history of any country, and every rally is full.” They have no empty seats. You had nothing.”

But immediately after that comment, an NTD.com cameraman deftly panned the stadium, zooming in on areas of empty seats and people leaving the arena, although it's unclear whether those spectators left the venue entirely.

News Nation reporter Libbey Dean also noted dozens of empty seats, including seats that Trump likely could have seen from his position at the podium, in a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

Even the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign's X account got in on the action, posting side-by-side Trump's remarks and a photo of completely empty seating areas. “He speaks to several sections that are completely empty,” the campaign said on its X account.

Trump has previously addressed reports of people leaving his rallies early, claiming that would “never happen.” But two weeks ago, The Guardian interviewed Trump supporters who left his rally in Marietta, Georgia early.

“We had to wait a while to get him on stage,” Haley Lummus of Jasper, Georgia, told the publication. Trump took the stage an hour and a half late. “Everyone did the wave and a lot of people were excited to see him cheer.”

But Lummus said, “I’ve been working and I’m tired.”

The Guardian reported that by the time Lummus left, about 50 other people had also left. Less than 30 minutes later, the newspaper reported, “a steady stream of people streamed toward the exits.”
