Le'Veon Moss injury update: Mike Elko shares the latest on Texas A&M's RB

Le'Veon Moss is out for the season Texas A&M.

According to an update from Mike Elko on Monday, Moss will miss the rest of the year due to the knee injury he suffered during the Aggies' loss over the weekend South Carolina.

“As far as injuries go, just so you're clear, Le'Veon will be out this year,” Elko said at the start of his press conference today. “So that will be something we will look into.”

Moss missed almost all of the Aggies' 44-20 loss at Columbia on Saturday. He rushed twice for eight yards in the first quarter before a hit caused enough injury to his right leg that he was carted off. Even if the outlook was even more optimistic after the result, according to his head coach it will still cost him the last three games of the year.

Moss was Texas A&M's leading rusher this season in his junior year. In nine games, he has accumulated 765 yards on 121 carries, accounting for 85 yards per outing and 6.3 yards per rush, while scoring 10 touchdowns. With essentially the same number of touches, this doubled what he had achieved as a freshman and sophomore in terms of yardage and points. This made him one of the leading rushers in the country that fall and was also the third-leading rusher after leaving the SEC.

Moss became the top back in the room in College Station after Rueben Owens suffered his own season-ending injury before the season. Now that he's out, Amari Daniels (94 carries for 466 yards with six touchdowns) and EJ Smith (33 carries for 107 yards) are next on the depth chart. Marcel Reed as the starting quarterback will also support their running game with 334 yards and five touchdowns on 66 carries.

The loss of Moss will be a significant loss for Texas A&M over the last month. Still, they have at least a week to decide how to approach the final quarter of their season.
