Last year, Miami-OH stumbled through a mediocre season, going 15-17 overall with a 9-9 record in the MAC. The RedHawks finished around middle of the pack in the standings and ultimately ended the year with a loss to Akron in the conference tournament.

The RedHawks are bringing back head coach Travis Steele for his third season as head coach. Steele retains three starters from last year's team, along with Kam Craft, who is finally getting back up to speed after his knee injury. However, five of the team's top six scorers have departed.

On the Appalachian State side, they won the Sun Belt championship last year in the regular season with a 16-2 conference run and a 27-7 overall mark. However, the Mountaineers lost to Arkansas State in the conference tournament and then lost to Wake Forest in the first round of the NIT.

The Mountaineers have a new roster in head coach Dustin Kerns' sixth season. App State has been hit pretty hard by transfers, including Justin Abson (Georgia), Tre'Von Spillers (Wake Forest) and Etienne Stothers (Hampton). The Mountaineers will have a lot of new faces this year.

I'll stick with App State here. Despite the high turnover, the Mountaineers still look pretty good on paper and should maintain a winning culture this season. Senior Myles Tate (9.4 PPG) should play a big role, as will Luke Wilson – the only returning scholarship player. However, depth can be an issue across the board.

Miami-OH has some promising names on paper and could very well take a step forward in 2024-25. The RedHawks added key names like Peter Suder (10.5 PPG) and Antwone Woolfork (3.3 PPG) who should add some points to the roster if all goes well. However, there is only one senior here, so Miami-OH may have some growing pains at first.
