Megyn Kelly completes MAGA makeover by working with Trump

Nine years ago, after his first debate as the Republican presidential candidate in 2015, Donald Trump accused Megyn Kelly of having “blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.”

What a difference a decade makes: Now the former Fox News host will rally alongside her former nemesis on Monday night in Pittsburgh.

On the latest episode of her podcast, Kelly said she'll do something she's “never done before” when she campaigns with Trump on Monday night.

Trump, or at least his campaign team, appears to believe their help is needed to win over a certain type of female voter during his final stop in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania.

As she explained it, the Trump campaign reached out to her directly over the weekend with an invitation she “never expected” to speak at the rally on Trump's behalf.

“I will proudly explain to this audience and everyone else why I believe it is absolutely critical that he win this election,” Kelly said.

The Trump campaign's move suggests he is admitting the weakness of his appeal to female voters. Last week, Kelly publicly criticized the campaign over its “brutal” rally at Madison Square Garden, asking, “Aren't there any women there advising your campaign?”

She complained, afraid that this would make him lose.

Kelly has been a strong supporter of Trump during this campaign – and an even louder critic of Kamala Harris. She recently defended Trump's comments about putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad and dressing up as literal trash for Halloween in a performative show of MAGA solidarity. This is a notable development given the contentious history dating back to the 2015 debate.

Her first question of the evening highlighted Trump's history of calling women “fat pigs, dogs, dudes and disgusting animals.” And Trump didn't respond kindly to the line of questioning, attacking Kelly in the days that followed, seemingly suggesting she was on her period and calling her a “bimbo” on Twitter.

In 2023, Kelly made it clear that the bad blood was behind them, so to speak. But then, just last March, Trump insulted her at his rally in Georgia.

“Megyn Kelly. May she rest in peace,” Trump joked, adding, “She’s kind of making a career out of pretending to like me.”

Trump has also turned to another ex-Fox host, Tucker Carlson, for support at his last-minute rallies. He appeared at the rally at Madison Square Garden in New York on the second-to-last campaign weekend and at an event in Duluth, Georgia, where, instead of addressing female voters, Carlson launched into a crazy tirade: “When daddy comes home,” you know , what he says? “You were a bad girl. You were a bad little girl and you're going to get a good beating.'”
