Oilers vs. Devils prediction, tips and odds for tonight's NHL game

The Edmonton Oilers have found a way to win without their captain, and to do that they need to put extra emphasis on defense. Expect that trend to continue tonight in Edmonton.

No Connor McDavid, no problem for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oil have won two straight games without their superstar sidelined, and they'll look to make it a third straight with a win at Rogers Place against the New Jersey Devils on Monday, November 4th.

My Devils vs. Oilers predictions are for both teams to close their doors and play to a low-scoring result. Read all about it in upcoming NHL picks.

My Oilers picks
Under 6.5 (-105 at BET99)

My Oilers analysis
The Edmonton Oilers have been shorthanded in seven of their last eight games, and the New Jersey Devils have been shorthanded in two straight games.

New Jersey has also allowed just five goals in its last three games, and the improved commitment to team defense was clearly evident: the Devils allowed just 1.66 goals and 1.67 expected goals per 60 minutes in those three games. against-5 system to game route.

Of course, Edmonton was also solid, with just 1.78 goals conceded per 60 goals allowed during the highlighted eight-game series.

Additionally, projected starter Calvin Pickard was also a sneaky performer between the goals for Edmonton with three straight wins while posting a .938 SV%, 1.67 GAA and 0.69 goals saved above average per 60 minutes.

I also have confidence in New Jersey's goaltending combination of Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen. Markstrom has stopped 73 of 77 shots (.948 SV%) in his last three starts for a 1.35 GAA, while Allen is primed for a rebounding performance after allowing 12 goals in his last two games.

Allen allowed a single goal on 38 shots in his first two starts and posted a respectable .900 SV% with a 0.15 GSAA/60 in 13 games with the Devils last season.

Finally, both coaches and teams will be trying to avoid getting into a high-profile back-and-forth shootout tonight.

The Oilers are playing for the second straight season following a 3-1 road trip, and the Devils are finishing their own three roadie games after splitting the first two games.

Bet99

Under 6.5

Jeff Skinner Over 2.5 shots

Jack Hughes Under 0.5 points

Edmonton winger Jeff Skinner is leading the club in shots (12.52) and attempts (21.66) per 60 minutes, recording three or more shots in eight of 10 games before missing in the last two games fell short of the benchmark as he converted his seven attempts into just a single shot. I expect him to have better shooting efficiency and be above the number tonight.

It was a solid start for Devils center Jack Hughes. He has four goals and eight assists in 14 games, but most of the damage has come in just four games (three goals and six assists).

Hughes has completely missed the scoresheet seven times and his 2.51 points per 60 minutes is well below the 3.41 mark he posted last year. The offense will pick up steam for the New Jersey star, but considering he doesn't get going tonight against the Oil, the chances of a play in the same game are high.
