2024 election updates: Millions voted early as Trump and Harris sprint to the finish line

In a Spanish-language radio interview released Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris reiterated her support for Puerto Rico.

“My commitment to Puerto Rico is longstanding. Even when I was in the U.S. Senate representing California, I took on the responsibility of prioritizing Puerto Rico's needs as well, knowing that Puerto Rico didn't have a U.S. Senator, and so I was responsible for, “We're bringing in more resources Puerto Rico,” she said in an interview on Univision Radio.

She vowed to continue fulfilling that commitment “if I am elected president of the United States, God willing and with the voices of the people who are listening right now.”

She positioned her inclusive approach as a stark contrast to former President Donald Trump's language in recent weeks, which she described as “hateful.”

“Trump's comments are hateful (and) are, you know, just promoting these tropes that are really unfair and designed to divide and demean people,” she said, quoting what Jennifer Lopez said on stage last week said while campaigning for Harris.

Harris also called immigration reform “one of her top priorities.”

“The immigration system is simply broken,” she said, listing some of her solutions, including securing the border, hiring more asylum judges, creating more humane asylum procedures and creating a way for “hard-working people” to earn citizenship.
