ORCHARD PARK — Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Monday that wide receiver Keon Coleman's status for Sunday's game in Indianapolis won't be announced until later in the week.

Coleman suffered a wrist/hand injury in Buffalo's 30-27 win over Miami on Sunday thanks to a hard hit from former Bill Jordan Poyer. Poyer rammed Coleman head-to-head with his helmet and incurred a critical personal foul penalty that ultimately cost the Dolphins their chance to win.

When Coleman hit the ground, he appeared to land on his left arm, causing the injury. He actually left the field with a trainer before Tyler Bass kicked the game-winning field goal.

“It's an ongoing assessment of his situation, so I'll know more as the week goes on,” McDermott said of Coleman, adding that he's hopeful it's not a long-term situation. Of course that sounds a bit threatening.

The Bills were already without wide receiver Amari Cooper due to a wrist injury as he was inactive for the game. It is unknown how serious this is or if he will be able to return for the Colts game. The same was true for Christian Benford, who was sidelined with a wrist injury.

Additionally, McDermott announced that defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot will be placed on injured reserve and will require surgery for a wrist injury. His absence means players like Casey Toohill and Javon Solomon may see more playing time unless the Bills sign someone before Tuesday's trade deadline.

Currently, the top three edge rushers are Greg Rousseau, AJ Epenesa and Von Miller, returning to action after four games due to an NFL suspension.

McDermott added that Benford, Cooper and Reggie Gilliam, who also missed the game, will be accounted for this week. “We’ll see how they do this week and go from there,” McDermott said.
