Patrick Mahomes says his ankle injury late in the Chiefs game was “scary.”

Patrick Mahomes is a “tough boy”!

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suffered an injury — and a scare — in the fourth quarter Monday Night Football on Nov. 4 when he twisted his left ankle.

“Definitely scary. “I think it hurt more just because it's the same ankle that I twisted last week, so it scared me a little bit,” Mahomes said after the overtime thriller in which the Chiefs maintained their unbeaten record . “If you don’t know for sure.” What’s going to happen and you get that stabbing pain, you always fear the worst.

Mahomes had just thrown a 7-yard touchdown pass to running back Samaje Perine when he appeared to slip on the turf and then fell to the ground, holding his head in his hands and supporting his ankle.

The reigning Super Bowl MVP, 29, was helped off the field and entered the medical tent to be examined.

“I was obviously running toward the goal line and I was kind of determined to run the football, and at the last second (I passed to) Samaje, and so I kind of awkwardly rolled my ankle a little bit,” Mahomes later explained.

“You feel the pain and it scares you. I've struggled with ankles before, but I just laid there and over time the pain subsided. I just came back, got moving again and felt comfortable going out there,” he said.

After the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed his own opinion on his quarterback's toughness.

“I didn’t know exactly where he would be with this, but he might have the loosest ankles in America,” Reid told reporters. “It's ridiculous how he can come back from these things and on top of that he's mentally strong.”

Reid added: “Yes, he (Patrick Mahomes) is a competitor. I told him I was going to take him out and he really wanted to fight me, so he’s a tough kid.”

After the 30:24 win against the Bucs, the Chiefs have a record of 8:0. The team hosts the Denver Broncos on Sunday, November 10th.
