First warning due to the chance of rain on election day

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – An initial warning is in effect Tuesday as some temporary rain showers could cloud Election Day in the Carolinas.

  • Today: First warning: showers, cool 60s
  • Wednesday: Warmer 70s, dry most of the day
  • Thursday: New first warning: wet commute in the morning

Scattered showers are forecast for today, election day. It won't rain all day, but there is a risk of showers at any time. Afternoon temperatures will mostly be in the upper 60s and will remain there this evening, with a risk of lingering showers.

There is a chance it will be wet after Election Day.

Mostly cloudy but mostly dry for most of Wednesday. But as a front slowly approaches from the middle of the country midweek, our rain chances increase Wednesday night into early Thursday.

As the rain continues to spread and perhaps become heavier in places, there is now a new first warning for Thursday as the morning commute looks to be quite wet. The rain should ease by the afternoon. Highs on Wednesday and Thursday will reach the warm 70s.

Friday looks dry with highs in the 70s.

As for the weekend, uncertainty remains regarding the forecast. Moisture from Tropical Storm Rafael, currently in the northern Caribbean, could shift eastward from the northern Gulf of Mexico, potentially increasing our chance of rain.
