College Football Playoff Top 25: First 2024 CFP Rankings Released

College Football Playoff Top 25: First 2024 CFP Rankings Released

Now, ten weeks into the 2024 college football season, teams across the country have put the foundation on their resumes to be considered for a spot in the postseason. For those with outstanding performances, that means a spot in the top 25 of the College Football Playoff and a path to the 12-team CFP bracket.

In the first year of the new format, the four conference champions of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC will receive a bye to the quarterfinals, which will be played at one of the New Years Six bowl sites. The remaining eight bids will be filled by seven major qualifiers and the top-ranked Group of Five conference champion.

For these reasons, the College Football Playoff top 25 does not necessarily reflect the final round.

Here's how the selection committee used 10 weeks of data to rank the top 25 teams with a chance at a spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff.

1. Oregon (Big Ten)

The Ducks are one of five remaining undefeated teams and have had the group's toughest schedule so far with wins over Ohio State and Boise State. Dan Lanning's group has a clear path to the Big Ten title game and a potential No. 1 overall seed.

Next schedule: vs. Maryland, at Wisconsin, vs. Washington

2. Ohio State

Next schedule: vs. Washington, at Purdue, at Minnesota, vs. Maryland

7. Tennessee

After coming through several SEC games with victories, including a rivalry win over Alabama, the Volunteers have overcome the road loss to Arkansas and re-entered the SEC conversation. A road game against Georgia will definitely determine their chances of winning the conference.
