Local voters give their predictions for the general election

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – The Pennington County Administration Building was busy Monday as voters came to cast their votes and help decide who America will elect as its next president.

“I think it will be very close. I think it will come down to electoral votes and everything. Hopefully everyone will come forward and make their voices heard,” said voter Troy Kilpatrick.

Another voter agrees the race will come down to the wire, but former President Donald Trump will emerge victorious.

“I just expect the voters to come forward and in the end we will have a big breakthrough,” said voter Colleen Kerk.

“I think the Democrats could take back the leadership,” Kilpatrick said.

As in 2020, some voters are hoping this election will generate a large turnout.

“Best voter turnout in a long time. That's what I hope. I believe there should be people of all ages who care about the outcome of how our country is run,” Kilpatrick added.

One voter expects turnout in this election to exceed 2020.

“All the changes we’ve been through and the whole economy and everything is so high,” said voter Ronda Cooper.

Once the election results are in, some voters would not be shocked if allegations of alleged voter fraud emerged based on similar reports from 2020.

“One side rejects it; One side keeps complaining about it, but nothing has really been clarified. There have been no changes to the way we count our votes,” said voter Triny Douglas.

“People rely on social media for information, and since it's so easy for them to come in and disrupt them or spread lies, I think that's what's going to happen,” Cooper added.

Regardless of the election results…

“I just pray that you know that, that there is a good outcome and our country can move forward toward common ground,” Douglas said.
