PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ – Polls are closed in Passaic County and across the state, and now it's time for local voters to watch the election night results for the county commissioner and sheriff elections.

In Wayne, candidates are on the ballot for the local school board, three seats on the Board of County Commissioners and for Passaic County Sheriff. (If you're looking for election results for the Wayne Board of Education, Click here).

Two Wayne residents were in the running for Passaic County sheriff to replace the late Richard Berdnik: current sheriff's office chief Thomas Adamo, a Democrat, and Republican Marla Saracino, captain of the Passaic County district attorney's office.

And in the other county contest, current Commissioner John Bartlett (also of Wayne) and Commissioner Sandi Lazzara fought to retain their seats on the board, with newcomer Rodney A. DeVore, an educator, on the Democratic ticket.

Three Republican candidates endorsed by the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization ran for those positions on the seven-member board. In the spring there were controversial primaries for both parties.

Here are the latest unofficial results for Passaic County, according to the Passaic Co. Clerk's Office (current incumbents are marked “Inc.” for “incumbent”):

Voter turnout was high in the first few days of early voting in New Jersey this year and is expected to be high across the country on Tuesday, with a presidential race at the top of the list. Voters in the Garden State also must make decisions for a new U.S. senator, for their representative in the House of Representatives and in local elections affecting their cities, public school districts and counties.

New Jersey voters will also select a new U.S. senator to replace Democrat Bob Menendez following his conviction on federal bribery charges, joining Sen. Cory Booker (D) in Washington.

All of the state's 12 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are also up for re-election. Wayne is divided into two districts, somewhat outlined by Hamburg Turnpike. Most people who live below west or south of the highway live in NJ-11, and those who live above Hamburg Turnpike live in NJ-9.
