The View's Joy Behar has been invited to a meeting with bosses after she “crossed the line” by revealing co-host Sara Haines' secret lesbian romance live on air.

The somewhat controversial host, 82, opened up about the brief same-sex affair Haines, 47, had in college while her parents sat in the audience at Wednesday's show.

Behar interrupted co-host Whoopi Goldberg, 68, and asked if Haines would discuss the romance with her parents during her upcoming appearance on the show's “Behind the Table” podcast.

She was criticized by her co-hosts for “embarrassing” Haines and was approached by superiors who told her the comment was “not okay.”

“Joy was grilled by her co-hosts and bosses for her on-air comment about Sara Haines' lesbian romance,” an insider told DailyMail.com. “She has crossed the line when it comes to relaying something she was told off-air.”

“She also crossed the line morally with her conservative parents in the audience.”

“Joy doesn’t have a filter most days, but that’s absolutely not OK and supervisors have spoken to her.”

They continued: “Joy apologized to her but that doesn't make it right.” “There are some things viewers don't need to know and Joy embarrassing Sara was unprofessional.”

The outburst occurred as Goldberg turned on the podcast at the end of Wednesday's show.

“I have to ask her a question,” Behar interrupted as she turned to Haines. “Are you going to bring up the lesbian relationship you said you had back at Smith (College)?”

Haines started laughing while her other co-hosts reacted in shock.

When the camera switched to Haines' parents, her father's mouth dropped open and her mother smiled.

“Dad, earmuffs! Earmuffs!' Haines said while miming with her hands over her ears.

“That was off-air for her to tell us,” Alyssa Farah reminded Griffin Behar.

Sunny Hostin then quipped, “Now it's on air.”

Making light of the embarrassing situation, Haines joked, “It's a good thing my dad doesn't always watch… But now he does.”

Goldberg added: “Now he will.”

Another source told DailyMail.com: “This was something Sara had shared with the audience outside of the show a week before, which is why Joy said it so freely.”

Haines grew up in an “extremely conservative” household and attended a left-leaning women's liberal arts college in Northampton, Massachusetts.

In 2014 she married lawyer Max Shifrin. The long-standing couple has children Alec (eight), Sandra (six) and Caleb (five).

She has been a co-host on and off since joining The View in 2016.

Behar, whose net worth is estimated at $30 million, has been a fixture on the day's panel since 1997, except for a brief hiatus between 2013 and 2015.

She famously doesn't hold back and previously accused Haines of being a closet “lesbian” when the married mother of three revealed she had visited Cubbyhole – a lesbian bar in Manhattan.

“She’s a secret lipstick lesbian,” she said in a June episode.

She also shared her own views on how to make it with a woman.

When asked if she's ever had a relationship with a “lady,” she replied, “No, but one day I will… I'll do it in my 90s!”

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC
