3-1! Super Champions League victory in Rotterdam

Crazy final phase against Feyenoord

FINALLY! We took one 3-1 win against Feyenoord on matchday four of the UEFA Champions League league phase to get three big points! A truly dramatic end to the encounter followed with plenty of end-to-end performance, but after Karim Konate's brace, Daouda Guindo sealed the win with a stunning strike!

Game summary

Our boys had a difficult start to the Champions League evening at De Kuip with five changes. The hosts had a great chance in the third minute but, to our relief, a ball shot across Blaswich's goalmouth failed to reach the intended receiver.

After that early scare, we worked hard to gain a foothold in the process and Build attack dynamics – without really worrying Timon Wellenreuther in the Feyenoord goal for the time being. The chances dried up, but the game still had a lot of scope intimidating Rotterdam atmosphere. The game was shaping up to be a hard-fought midfield battle with extremely even stats as we headed towards half-time – when Oscar Gloukh suddenly hit a super cross into the box and Karim Konate was perfectly placed nod 1-0 lead (45+2')! The Dutch team started the second half with momentum, as they did in the first, but like us, their good phase was short-lived have upped the ante! Once again we pounced with a cross into the penalty area – this time from a corner.

Bobby Clark's throw-in was headed by Piatkowski Konate, which spun at close range and scored to make it 2-0 (51'). The 400 Salzburg fans were there in full voice in an otherwise quiet stadium.

The the coveted first Champions League points of the season That wasn't a given as the hosts threw everything forward to keep us off balance. Hancko, Nieuwkoop and others struggled to score Blaswich's goal – but our German goalkeeper didn't have much to do.

If only it had been a great game so far – but the final stages took the drama to a whole new level! First, Lucas Gourna-Douath was fouled with a stamp that saw Chris-Kévin Nadje must leave the field with a Red card. Would we head to the points from there? Absolutely not! A minute later the hosts were finally there got on the top scorer list and the stadium was jumping. We couldn't clear the ball well enough and Hadj Moussa struck from a tight angle (81'). As for the late drama, it was just beginning! We were running forward when Capaldo went down in the penalty area – again VAR was called for and the referee pointed to the spot from which Konate smashed his penalty into the crossbar. Could the hosts pull off an unlikely late comeback? No, the ball was cut back Daouda Guindo. The full-back wasted no time and flicked the ball into the top corner (86th) – and that's it.

Feyenoord still gave it their all, but the final whistle sounded and the first three points of our UEFA Champions League season were in the bag!

I'm really happy for the boys because it takes a big burden off our shoulders! We made the stadium a little quieter with our determination, compactness and aggressiveness off the ball. The team played really well and we were excellent until our second goal. We have to take this feeling with us now!

Today you saw what kind of team we are. Today was the day we really delivered and defended brilliantly all over the pitch. In the phases where things weren't going well for us, we were really compact and did well – that's three well-deserved points!
