Winter storm warnings are in effect in New Mexico. Here's what to expect.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Winter storm warnings are in effect in New Mexico as some locations may see as little as 1 to 3 inches or as much as 1 to 3 feet of snow.

The National Weather Service issued the winter storm warning early Wednesday morning. Most of the snow is expected to fall Thursday night and Thursday, but may also begin Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The storm is approaching from the west with good aerial wind currents. This will result in heavy snow from around Torrance County north through western San Miguel County and into portions of Taos County and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Mountain peaks around 8,000 to 9,000 feet in elevation may see up to 2 to 4 feet of snow.

An inch of snow is expected to fall in Albuquerque. Meanwhile, 10.2 inches of snow is forecast for Santa Fe.

The big “winner” if you at least like snow is Las Vegas. A snow depth of 33.3 inches – almost a meter – is forecast for Las Vegas. More than 2 feet of snow is also expected to fall in Clayton and Raton. Taos, Tucumcari and Santa Rosa will also see significant snowfall, no exaggeration.
