Ademola Lookman and Nicolò Zaniolo gave Atalanta a deserved and prestigious Champions League away win at VfB Stuttgart.

La Dea has won five straight in Serie A, including Sunday's 3-0 away win at leaders Napoli, but there has been one win and two 0-0 draws in Europe. Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca remained out of action while VfB beat Juventus 1-0 in Turin and was without Dan-Axel Zagadou, Yannik Keitel, Luca Raimund and Jamie Leweling. El Bilal Touré started against his former club.

Mario Pasalic shot just wide from the edge of the penalty area, but Roualt converted a free header from six meters over the goal after a short corner routine.

There was bad news for Atalanta, who lost Sead Kolasinac to injury after just 13 minutes and was replaced by Odilon Kossounou.

The hosts' appeals for a penalty were dismissed as El Bilal Toure seemed more likely to hit Davide Zappacosta than the other way around.

Pasalic's first touch of the ball let him down with a through ball from Ederson into the box, then Millot shot over the goal from distance.

Charles De Ketelaere came on for the restart and made an immediate impact as Lookman intercepted a loose ball in midfield to send the Belgian dribbling down the right side and then he was ready to make the retreat with a tap-in from five yards to ward off.

Ederson was booked for a tackle from behind and will be suspended for Atalanta's next Champions League game.

Fuhrich completed a quick pass and went down the left side, but the pullback could only be intercepted with difficulty. In the resulting corner, Toure and Demirovic failed to get the crucial ball in the six-yard box.

De Ketelaere's ducked header from Davide Zappacosta's cross tested the goalkeeper at the near post, while Malanga's shot was deflected into the side netting by Raoul Bellanova.

Stenzel came close with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that went just a few centimeters past the far post.

But just a few moments later, VfB gave Atalanta the second goal, as Rouault failed in the attempted free throw and released Zaniolo for his first goal for this club.
