Snow levels in Colorado: Election Day storm dumps powder across the state as ski resorts prepare to open

Hot on the heels of the weekend snowstormanother wave of winter weather Heavy snow fell in the Colorado Rocky Mountains on Tuesday, November 5th – and there could be more snow.

Fresh snow fell in all three open ski areas so far in Colorado this year. Wolf Creek Ski Area, the first to open this season, received another 14 inches in the election night storm, according to OpenSnow. Meanwhile, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area and Keystone Resort, both of which opened last Saturday, Nov. 2, each reported 5 inches.

Of the ski resorts that haven't opened yet, Steamboat Resort appeared to have had the most snow with the mid-mountain percentage of snow On Wednesday morning, November 6th, the snow depth was nearly 10 inches. Snow levels at Aspen-Snowmass Ski Area showed about 8 inches.

Copper Mountain reported at least 6 inches of snowpack Wednesday morning as snow falls at Breckenridge Ski Resort showed about 5 inches of snowfall. Both Copper and Breckenridge are scheduled to open on Friday, November 8th.

Vail Mountain, scheduled to open Nov. 15, also received about 5 inches, according to OpenSnow. Loveland Ski Area and Winter Park Ski Area, neither of which have yet announced their opening day, also reported about 5 inches.

This storm system could continue dumping snow across Colorado into the start of the weekend, OpenSnow founding meteorologist Joel Gratz wrote in a blog post on Wednesday. The extended forecast also looks good that the snowfall will continue in waves at least until the middle of the month, wrote Gratz.

“We are on the move,” he said.
