Nancy Pelosi reacts to Donald Trump's overwhelming election victory

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared teary-eyed as she waited for Vice President Kamala Harris to give her concession speech at Howard University in Washington DC on Wednesday, saying on social media that she was in favor of the Pray America's success.

As seen in footage from cable channel C-SPAN, she also engaged in what appeared to be a heated discussion with Democratic Party strategist Donna Brazile, sparking speculation on social media that the two were arguing.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump won a dramatic victory in the presidential election, receiving 295 Electoral College votes, 25 more than the 270 needed to win, according to the Associated Press (AP).

At 3 a.m. ET Thursday, AP also reported that Trump had a significant lead in the swing states of Nevada and Arizona, which have not yet been declared, and that the president-elect was on track to a popular vote victory for the first time seems to be.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, Pelosi said: “We all pray for America’s success under the next administration. The peaceful transfer of power is the cornerstone of our democracy. After every election, we all have a responsibility to come together and find common ground.”

Harris gave her concession speech Wednesday afternoon to disappointed supporters at Howard University, where she attended as a student, where she said Americans must “accept” the election results.

Among those in attendance was Pelosi, who was re-elected Tuesday to represent California's 11th Congressional District. In a picture taken by photographer Kevin Dietsch, Pelosi appeared distraught. Fox News described her appearance as “sombre and teary-eyed.”

Pelosi was also filmed in what appeared to be an animated conversation with Brazile, who was a two-time acting chairman of the Democratic National Committee. In a post on

Steve Cortes, a former Trump adviser and Fox News contributor, also posted the video with the comment: “Nancy Pelosi argues with Donna Brazile at Kamala Harris' defeat speech.”

It's unclear from the clip what the two talked about during their encounter.

Newsweek contacted Pelosi and Brazile by email outside of regular office hours on Thursday for comment.

During her address at Howard University, Harris tried to reassure her supporters, saying, “I know a lot of people feel like we're entering a dark time. But for the sake of all of us, I hope that’s not the case.”

The current vice president said her “heart is full of gratitude today” for the support she received during the campaign, adding: “Hear me when I say that the light of America's promise will always burn bright.”

On one of the main themes of her presidential campaign, Harris said: “We will never give up the fight for our democracy, the rule of law, the rule of law and the sacred idea that each of us, no matter who we are, or where we begin, certain fundamental rights and Have freedoms that must be preserved.”

Trump delivered a victory speech to his supporters at 2:30 a.m. ET in Florida on Wednesday, calling his presidential election win the “greatest political movement of all time.”

He said: “We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very urgently. We will fix our borders, we will fix everything about our country, and we made history tonight for a reason.”

“I will not rest until we create the strong, secure, and prosperous America that our children and you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America, this is what we must have.”
