Garth Brooks' sexual assault lawsuit takes another unexpected turn

Garth Brooks' sexual assault lawsuit takes another unexpected turn

Garth Brooks' lawyers have filed a motion that could change the course of the sexual assault trial against him.

Jane Roe (not her real name) filed her case on October 3 in California. Her lawsuit alleges that Brooks raped and sexually assaulted her on separate occasions in 2019.

She worked for the country star and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, before and during the period in which the assaults occurred, she says, adding that her financial hardship made her an easy target for Brooks.

AND is now reporting that Brooks' lawyers have filed a motion to move the lawsuit to federal court rather than the California Supreme Court. A legal expert who spoke to the prominent news outlet suggests that this move would increase the likelihood of a dismissal and/or speed up the process.

Federal court would be a third venue for possible litigation on this matter. A separate but related request from Brooks in Mississippi in September to proceed under pseudonyms is related to the California lawsuit. This file became controversial when Jane Roe used Brooks' name in her file. He responded by using her real name in updates to the Mississippi documents. Taste of Country has chosen not to use their official name at this time.

AND points out that it is possible to sue in federal court because the two parties live in different states and the amount required by Jane Roe exceeds a certain threshold. With this week's election, the news has, in some ways, gone under the radar.

The same goes for Brooks' latest release In Studio G episode (November 4th), in which he was particularly lively at the beginning.

“It’s all about the anthology and it’s about loving each other, so go home guys,” he says. “If you want to be an asshole, go somewhere else, there are lots of places.”
