University of Oregon employee says Trump voters should 'jump off the damn bridge'

A University of Oregon employee expressed hope in a social media post that people who voted for President-elect Donald Trump will jump off a bridge, a recording of the video released Thursday by a media provider shows.

“Do something because you’re fucking stupid,” Leonard Serrato, assistant director of fraternity affairs at the school, said in an Instagram story shared by Grabien. “And I hope you jump off the damn bridge.”

At the start of the video, he said Trump's voters could be “kidding themselves.”

“I say this in the most disrespectful way possible: I don’t care if you are my family. I don't care if you're my friend. I don't care if we've been friends all our lives. “You can literally go fuck yourself if you voted for Donald Trump,” Serrato said.

He continued, urging people saddened by the high cost of food to “get a damn better paying job” or a “darn better education.”

Do better in life,” Serrato suggested.

Angela Seydel, a spokeswoman for the University of Oregon, told The National News Desk (TNND) that Serrato has been placed on administrative leave. The school also launched an investigation into the post and is examining it in the context of university policy and Serrato's “role as a public employee,” Seydel said.

“The University of Oregon finds the statements in the video abhorrent and not consistent with our values or mission,” she said. “We appreciate the conflict between his statements, his role in student life at the university and our institutional values.”

Seydel added that the school is providing mental and emotional health resources to concerned students and staff while it investigates the post.

“As a public university, we take seriously our duty to create an environment that welcomes diversity of thought and respect consistent with our educational mission,” she told TNND.

Serrato did not respond to a request for comment from TNND via his school email.
