The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in trading for the All-Defensive star

The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in trading for the All-Defensive star

The New York Knicks recently announced a blockbuster transfer involving Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns. This trade was unexpected and showed how all-in New York is this window.

While their big move was to acquire Towns, the Knicks may not be done making deals just yet. In a recent report, Kris Pursiainen of the Knicks Film School said New York is interested in Memphis Grizzlies guard Marcus Smart.

“The New York Knicks have had internal discussions about a possible deal for Marcus Smart, according to sources familiar with the situation,” Pursiainen wrote on X. “NYK has had previous rumors of interest in Smart. There is no deal imminent, but multiple sources indicated the Knicks are willing to enter the market.”

Smart is a three-time All-Defensive Guard and 2022 NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Smart was acquired from Memphis last offseason and only played 20 games for the Grizzlies due to injury. While he was productive in those games, averaging a career-high 14.5 points, the lack of availability is a real issue.

If the Grizzlies fail to get back into the Western Conference playoffs, or if they end up choosing their younger players over Smart, perhaps the veteran guard will be available.

According to this recent report, the Knicks have a trade interest in the former Boston Celtics star.
