Former New York Gov. Paterson's stepson was attacked on New York's Upper East Side, police said

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) – The NYPD is searching for five people wanted in connection with a gang attack on former New York Gov. David Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson Friday night on the Upper East Side, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Friday in front of 1871 2nd Avenue on the Upper East Side.

According to Paterson's spokesman, the former governor and his stepson Anthony Sliwa were attacked while walking around the block near their home by some people who had previous contact with Sliwa.

After a verbal altercation, police said these five people punched both victims in the face and around the body.

They fled on foot south on 2 Avenue.

“They both suffered some injuries but were able to defend themselves against their attackers. They are currently at Cornell Hospital as a precautionary measure,” Sean Darcy, the former governor’s spokesman, said Friday evening.

Paterson suffered injuries to his face and head, while Sliwa suffered injuries to his face, police said. Both were taken to hospital in stable condition.

According to Darcy, Sliwa is the son of former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Police released the following descriptions of the suspects:

The first individual is described as a female with dark skin and purple braids. She was last seen wearing light-colored pants, a dark sweater, and purple and black sneakers.

The second individual is described as male with dark skin. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, a black hoodie, a cap with a New York Yankees logo, light-colored jeans and light-colored sneakers.

The third individual is described as male with a light complexion. He was last seen wearing a red T-shirt, light-colored pants, light-colored slippers and a black sweater tied around his waist.

The fourth individual is described as male with medium skin tone. He was last seen wearing a gray graphic t-shirt, black pants and light-colored shoes.

The fifth individual is described as male with dark skin. He was last seen wearing a graphic t-shirt, black sweatshirt, black pants and light-colored sneakers.
