The latest on Nick Singleton, Anthony Donkoh, Kaden Saunders and more

STATE UNIVERSITY – No. 7 Penn State has battled numerous injuries throughout his career UCLA today at Beaver Stadium. While there was some good news during pregame warmups, other updates for head coach James Franklin's team aren't as positive. Here's what we know.

Four Lions return to action

Penn State didn't have a linebacker Dominic DeLuca Available last week against Illinois. He returned to action this week with a thumbprint on his right hand. Additionally offensive lineman Sal Wormley And JB Nelsonplus cornerback Jalen Kimberare all back in action after having to leave the competition last week due to injury.

Singleton is in uniform but hasn't played

Penn State star junior running back Nicholas Singleton missed practice on Wednesday and was listed as questionable ahead of Saturday's game. He warmed up before the game. But then he spent the first half on the sidelines in full pads and his jersey number 11. However, he was missing his helmet and didn't take a snap in the first 30 minutes. We'll update this post when he sees the field after halftime. But that seems unlikely. No information has been released about the nature of what he is dealing with.

Co-starter in his place Kaytron Allen has 12 carries for 46 yards. And, newbie Quinton Martin Jr., Playing in his second game as a Nittany Lion, he had one carry for one yard and one catch for three yards.

Penn State punt returner Saunders was sidelined

Penn State punt returner Kaden Saunders was the team's primary punt returner through the first four games. However, due to an injury he sustained during the preparatory camp, he almost exclusively caught the ball fairly. It is unclear whether this issue is the reason he is not at today's game and is watching with a walking boot on his right foot. But he will miss at least some time going forward. In his place, walk-on receiver Jake Spencer scored the only UCLA punt of the first half.

Donkoh suffers an upper body injury

Penn State starting right tackle Anthony Donkoh suffered an upper-body injury in the first half of Saturday's game. He left the field after receiving a third down sack to his left side. The trainers immediately took him to the injury tent on the sidelines. Everything points to him sticking out his left shoulder. To fix this, he took his pads off and then put them back on. But he continued to massage that area on the sideline. Backup Nolan Rucci finished the first half at right tackle and will likely play in the second half.
