Washington defeats No. 10 Michigan in a rematch of last season's national championship

The Washington Huskies got their revenge.

Nearly nine months after a national championship loss to Michigan, the boys in purple earned a 27-17 victory over the Wolverines on Saturday.

The two teams are now Big Ten rivals, so there will be a rare national championship rematch.

Washington took a 14-0 lead, but the Wolverines scored 17 unanswered points and eventually took a three-point lead midway through the third quarter.

The Huskies tied it with a field goal early in the fourth, and after forcing a punt, they were in business. But Will Rogers threw an interception, squandering all the momentum they had.

However, Michigan did the same, losing a fumble on its own 32, and Washington didn't let the opportunity slip away. Jonah Coleman ran three times for 32 yards and reached the end zone to give the Huskies a 24-17 lead with 6:22 left.

LEE CORSO, 89, is missing from the latest edition of ESPN's “COLLEGE GAMEDAY” after feeling “under the weather.”

Michigan converted a 4th and inches, but the next pass was intercepted on its own side of the field. Then, with less than 70 seconds to play, Washington kicked a 32-yard field goal, making it two possessions and effectively ending the ballgame.

Both teams look very different compared to their national championship game, as Michael Penix, Rome Odunze and JJ McCarthy were taken eighth, ninth and 10th in the NFL Draft, respectively. Even Blake Corum and Roman Wilson from Michigan and Ja'Lynn Polk from Washington made it into the league. Both teams also now have new head coaches leading their programs.

Will Rogers completed 21 of his 32 passes for Washington, throwing for 271 yards and two touchdowns. Denzel Boston and Giles Jackson were the recipients of those scores, combining for nine receptions for 158 yards.
