Will NBA star Paul George make his preseason debut for the 76ers against the Breakers?

As the start of the Philadelphia 76ers' 2024 preseason is here, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the team given the presence of some new players. Nine-time All-Star Paul George joined the Sixers last summer as arguably the best free agent available.

Last week, George traveled with the team to the Bahamas to participate in his first training camp run. The Sixers held five practices and George was a full participant from the jump.

Despite completing training camp with no known setbacks, George could not confirm whether he would play in Monday's pre-season game against the New Zealand Breakers.

“I’m not sure when that time will be,” George said of the scheduled date for his preseason debut. “I’m just taking it one day at a time and getting ready for the regular season.”

According to Nick Nurse, George is not expected to play against the Breakers on Monday. It looks like the Sixers will add the star wing to the rotation as the preseason progresses.

At the start of the 2024 offseason, the Sixers were eliminated in the first round. It was the first time since the bubble run in 2020 that they failed to make it to the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

Since the Sixers knew they would have a ton of cap space heading into free agency, they were expected to go star hunting again. Many rumors and reports suggested that Paul George was the No. 1 target.

With a player option looming, George declined to return to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of his original contract. While the door was open for the Clippers to offer a long-term contract, George and his camp reportedly did not accept the terms. Eventually the two parties mutually decided to part ways.

George entered free agency as one of the best players available. The nine-time All-Star was expected to face multiple teams, including the Sixers. In the end, he chose Philadelphia.

For the 2024-2025 NBA season and beyond, the Sixers will have George on board in hopes that he will help them overcome their current cap.
