Spirit Halloween opens new Christmas pop-ups in Hamilton Township, Marlton

Spirit Halloween is known for storming into empty storefronts every spooky season and selling lots of costumes and decorations. The South Jersey-based company now has its sights set on another big holiday.

The company is launching its new Spirit Christmas concept, which will include ten pop-up locations across the Northeast. First up is the Hamilton Township flagship opening on Friday, October 18th. Additional locations, including one in Marlton, will open in early November.

According to the company, each Spirit Christmas store offers a “unique shopping experience” with a selection of holiday decorations, apparel, inflatables, gifts and holiday gifts. In addition to purchasing Christmas items, shoppers can also stroll through a gingerbread village, mail their letters to Santa Claus at the North Pole, and find out whether they're on the naughty or nice list. Santa Claus will also be on site at the Spirit Christmas Stores; visitors can take photos with him and receive a free digital postcard. Santa photos can be booked online in advance.

Unlike its sister store, Spirit Christmas won't be spooky. But the logo features a winking Santa Claus, paying tribute to the red eye of the Spirit Halloween mascot Jack the Reaper. The Atlantic City Press reported.

The flagship store will be located at 230 Consumer Square, in a space that formerly housed the Christmas Tree Shops, a chain that closed all of its locations last year after filing for bankruptcy. The Hamilton store is less than 10 miles from Spirit's headquarters in Egg Harbor Township, where the company, owned by Spencer Gifts, moved in 1999.

Spirit Halloween has more than 1,500 stores across the United States and Canada. The Halloween necklace spoofed on last week's season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” has amassed a cult-like following – as the annual Spirit Halloween proves grand opening celebrations that draw thousands of people to the Egg Harbor Township flagship location. This won't be the first time Spirit has dabbled in Christmas, as the chain previously opened holiday pop-ups in the '90s and early 2000s.

The Marlton store will be located at 740 Route 73 South. Additional Spirit Christmas pop-up stores will open in Brick, NJ; Erie, Pa.; and Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
