Take It Til You Make It: New York Radio Host Deals Hard With Disgusting Phillies Fans (UPDATE)

Take It Til You Make It: New York Radio Host Deals Hard With Disgusting Phillies Fans (UPDATE)

I'm almost embarrassed to write this because it's such a cheesy radio piece that uses the laziest narrative about Philly fans you can find. You can listen to this radio host on WFAN complaining about Phillies fans for 15 seconds and know that he's just a guy not doing a good enough job and that he keeps failing to deliver indulging in the same tired phrases like calling opposing fans “disgusting and terrible people” Zero examples. This is Mets fan Evan Roberts, who was at CBP for Game 2 of the NLDS and was so disgusted by these horrible people that he's rooting for the Yankees in a possible World Series matchup against the Phils. Here is his summary via audacy.com:

“They were so disgusting and such horrible people,” Evan said. “The idea of them celebrating a championship actually pains me.

“If there is a Yankees/Phillies World Series, that would be weeks away. It's time to let the wounds heal. Now it's time to remind myself that I never have to go back to that disgusting city again… but did my experience in the moment make it any more likely that I would root for the Yankees in a Yankees/Phillies World Series? Oh, hell yeah.”

Evan left with his family and as the game progressed and the Mets took a 3-0 lead, he began to wonder how he would leave Citizens Bank Park without incident with the score holding and New York leading 2-0 would go.

“I'm thinking, 'How are we going to get out of here alive if the Mets win?'” Evan said. “I actually thought the Phillies win helped us get out in one piece.”

Typically, when you start pulling back the curtain, these “experiences” are either completely made up or someone tried to play around and figure it out. I admit that the likelihood that his family was insulted while wearing Mets gear is relatively high, just like the treatment Phillies fans will receive Tuesday night at Citi Field. But would anyone do something? Absolutely not. I was there on Saturday when they lost a heartbreaker. No Mets fan was in danger and they were vastly outnumbered, no matter what Russ Joy tried to tell you before this series began.

The good thing is that these days we have the internet and videos like this where barbaric Phillies fans tear a Mets fan apart with boos! Oh, humanity!

Note that the Mets fan took a completely different path than everyone else. It's like he was looking for it or something.

But you know what? Maybe this was Evan's first time seeing a game in Philly during the playoffs, as it was the only time the Mets and Phils played each other, right?

No. He attended TWO Nets vs. Sixers playoff games:

“They were everything you would expect,” Evan said. “I’ll give it to Philly. Whatever you believe it is.

“I went to two Nets/Sixers playoff games and didn't feel nearly as much disgust as I did last night. It wasn’t even on the same planet as far as their behavior went.”

I can't believe Sixers fans don't feel overwhelmed by the brutal history of these two fan bases.

The icing on the cake for me is when he says, “I never have to go back to that disgusting city again,” and then mentions that he was just there for the Knicks vs. Sixers game last year. Why does he keep coming back? I can use a radio piece. But a cheesy movie that isn't even entertaining or has any meat on its bones gives me goosebumps. If you're going to do this, at least be entertaining enough:

What a complete man-child. All you have to do is listen for five minutes to know he's not entertaining enough, so he has to move on to calling the Linc a “green dump” and the Phillies fans “drunkards” and himself Patting himself on the back again for quietly cheering on Mark Vientos scored the game and tied the home run. This guy filled out an entire bingo board full of hacky radio pieces in just 20 minutes:

This is the worst thing the FAN has done since he and Spike Eskin yelled at each other for leaving for Opening Day. “Listen up, dildo head.” I'm pretty sure this all went down when Spike got one foot out the door and returned to WIP:

Update: Roberts was on the WIP Midday Show (SYNERGIES!) and talked about his experience and provided his first actual example of the disgusting behavior of Phillies fans:

The only example he can give of Phillies fans being “disgusting people” is that they saw so many big home runs that a couple behind him were about to hit another? How can you not be romantic about baseball?
