Nicholas Pryor, 'Port Charles' Star, Dies at 89 – Watch Jon Lindstrom's Tribute to His 'Mentor'

Port Charles Star Nicholas Pryor has died aged 89. The actor was known for his role as Tom Cruise's father Risky businessan unforgettable passenger Airplane!and other roles in addition to his years General Hospital Spin-off as Victor Collins.

Pryor's Port Charles costar, GH2012's Jon Lindstrom announced his death on Instagram on October 8, saying that Pryor died on Monday, October 7, “surrounded by a loving family.” A cause of death was not given. Lindstrom plays Kevin Collins General Hospital and reprized the role in Port Charles. Pryor played his father.

“It is my solemn duty to announce the passing of the great Nicholas Pryor. Nick was an actor and an exceptional friend. He passed away on October 7, 2024 surrounded by a loving family,” Lindstrom wrote in his Instagram tribute, which features a black-and-white headshot of Pryor.

The caption continues: “Nick is perhaps best known for his role as the father of #TomCruise in #RiskyBusiness or the father of #RobertDowneyJr in #LessThanZero. He shared the screen with the likes of #JackNicholson #KurtRussell #EwanMcGregor. Too many to really name. He starred on #Broadway and did great work in film and television for over 60 years. But to me he was my friend. One of the best I've ever had. He was a mentor, a sounding board, a trusted confidant and even a father figure, yes, he played my own father in #GH and #PortCharles. And he was one of the funniest people to spend time with over a bottle of good wine and a great meal. I will miss him terribly, as will his beautiful wife Christina, his daughter Stacey and his two grandchildren Gus and Avril. REST IN PEACE”

Pryor played the quirky Professor Victor Collins Port Charles from 1997 to the end of the spin-off in 2003 with a total of 347 episodes. The General Hospital The spin-off also starred Pat Crowley, who played Victor's wife Mary Scanlon.

Pryor also had a recurring role in Beverly Hills 90210 as Chancellor Milton Arnold and starred Gene Bennett Group of five. Most recently he played in Oeznik The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the morgue doctor came in Halloween Kills.
