Billie Eilish says she won't talk about sexuality and dating life again

Billie Eilish has put an end to discussions about her sexuality.

In an interview for Vogue's November cover, published on October 8, Eilish spoke about her sexuality for the last time.

“I wish no one knew about my sexuality or my dating life. Always, always, always,” she said frustrated. “And I hope they never do it again. And I'll never talk about my sexuality again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating again.”

Eilish has been making headlines for her sexuality for almost a year, and the 22-year-old reflected on how it has affected her.

“I guess I also underestimate how the things I say get blown up into the biggest news stories in the world,” she said with a sigh.

The comments come after a nearly year-long saga that began in November 2023 when Eilish, who recently split from Neighborhood frontman Jesse Rutherford, said in an interview with Variety that she had found it difficult to date other girls to get in touch.

“I love her so much,” she said. “I love them as people. I am attracted to them as people. I’m really attracted to them.”

While she was on a red carpet in December, Variety asked Eilish if she planned to appear in the story.

“No, I didn’t,” Eilish replied. “But I kind of thought, 'Wasn't that obvious?'?” I didn't know that people didn't know. I just don't really believe in it. I'm just like, 'Why can't we just exist?' I've been doing this for a long time and I just haven't talked about it. Oops.”

“But I saw the article and thought, 'Oh, I think I got out today.' Okay, cool. It's exciting for me because I guess people didn't know, but it's cool that they know,” she continued. “I’m for the girls.”

Eilish posted a message to Variety on Instagram the next day.

“Thank you, Variety, for my award and for letting me walk on a red carpet at 11 a.m. instead of talking about anything else that matters. I like boys and girls, leave me alone about that. Please, who cares literally, stream 'What was I made for?'” she captioned her post.

The nine-time Grammy winner further addressed the situation in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, in which she specifically discussed the songwriting process for her track “Lunch.”

“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” she said. “I wrote some of it before I ever did anything with a girl, and I wrote the rest after.”

“I've been in love with girls my whole life, but I just didn't get it – until last year when I realized I wanted my face in a vagina,” she continued.

The “Birds of a Feather” singer added that she doesn't plan on talking about who she's attracted to in 2023.

“I never in a million years planned to ever talk about my sexuality. “It’s really frustrating to me that it came up,” she said, referring to the Variety article.

She added: “Who cares? The whole world suddenly decided who I was and I couldn’t say anything or control any of it.”

Eilish emphasized that everyone is on their own journey with their sexuality.

“Dude, I know people who don't know their sexuality until they're in their 40s, 50s, 60s,” she said. “It takes a while to find yourself and I think it's really unfair how the internet pushes you to talk about who you are and what you are.”
