Kyle Chandler will play Hal Jordan in the DC series for HBO

It's official: Emmy winner Kyle Chandler will star LanternsHBO's high-profile series based on the Green Lantern DC comic. As Deadline exclusively reported last month, the Emmy winner was in negotiations to play Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern character played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film. After a search, Aaron Pierre was simply cast as co-lead John Stewart.

The series of Ozarkis Chris Mundy, GuardianDamon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King follow new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic police officers who are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the American heartland.

The eight-part episode Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who will serve as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writers and executive producers. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and also serve as executive producer.

Chandler, an Emmy winner for his signature role in friday night lights, also played along Bloodline, Catch-22 And Super pumped. He will be seen next in features Back in action And Anniversary. He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
