“Velma” is canceled by Max after two seasons

The latest spin-off from Scooby Doo has bitten the animated dust.

VelmaMindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy's adult crime comedy based on the character Velma Dinkley was canceled by Max after two seasons.

“Over the past two seasons, Mindy (Kaling) and Charlie (Grandy) have created an incredibly fun and fresh world within the iconic crime series,” a spokesperson for Max said in a statement. “Although we will not be continuing with another season of the series, we thank them for their compelling coming-of-age story, their unmatched clues and their hilarious banter.”

The show followed Velma (voiced by Kaling) – the unsung and underrated head of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang – as she found a way to balance her detective work with the demands of her newfound popularity. Other voices included Glenn Howerton as Fred Jones, Sam Richardson as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers and Constance Wu as Daphne Blake.

The second season with 10 episodes Velma from Warner Bros. Animation was canceled on April 25th. A total of 21 episodes were produced.

Velmawas of course just one of the endless ones Scooby Doo Spin-off series that included The new Scooby-Doo films, Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics, The Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Show, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, A Puppy Named Scooby-Doo, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, Be cool, Scooby Doo! and Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? The original series appeared in 1969. Velma is so far the only spin-off aimed at adults.
