Danny Green announces his retirement from basketball

Danny Green has officially announced his retirement from basketball.

The former UNC basketball star made it official Thursday afternoon with the social media post (and video) seen below.

After being selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft, Green proved that he belonged in the league. While most UNC basketball fans will remember his highlight dunks (particularly the one over Duke guard Greg Paulus) and his dancing skills before kickoff (along with his impact on a UNC Basketball National Championship squad), Green earned a reputation as an elite marksman and defensive wizard.

These skills helped him stay in the NBA for 15 seasons, as the former Tar Heel played for six different NBA franchises throughout his career. He was part of many successful teams and won three NBA championships with three different franchises.

In 832 games, Green averaged 8.7 points and shot 42.1% from the floor (including 40% from three-point range). For his defensive performance, Green was named to the All-Defensive Team for the 2016-2017 season.

Injuries have derailed the final seasons of his career, limiting him to just 13 games over the last two seasons. He has since taken on roles in broadcasting and podcasting, two areas we can expect a lot from him as he begins his retirement life!

One thing is certain: Danny Green has been successful at all levels of basketball and can now look back on an outstanding career. Now we'll all wait and see what his plans are for the future once he officially retires from basketball.
