Month-old baby dies after dog bite in Torrance – NBC Los Angeles

A one-month-old baby died after being bitten by a dog in Torrance, police said.

Officers with the Torrance Police Department responded to an animal bite call in the 2700 block of Martha Avenue at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday.

The child was taken to the hospital, but when officers arrived at the hospital, they contacted the parents and informed them that the child had died.

According to police, investigators also contacted the hospital to initiate further investigations. The dog and several others in the home were taken by the City of Torrance Animal Control Department.

Animal control officials declined to comment on the case while the police investigation continued.

Faye Tohiti, who knows the family, said she was in disbelief when she heard about the tragedy.

“I can’t imagine how the mother is feeling right now,” she said. “She must be devastated.”

According to Torrance police, the cause of death is undetermined and is pending an investigation by the Los Angeles County coroner.
