Cameroon's great Eto'o is recruiting fans for the game against Kenya

Cameroon Football Association (Fecafoot) President Samuel Eto'o Fils has offered 500 tickets to students of a secondary school in Yaoundé for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying match against Kenya's Harambee Stars at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Eto'o made the donation on Thursday during a visit to Collège Saint Benoît, a secondary educational institution of the Catholic Archdiocese of Yaoundé, the school's principal, Father Jacques Katchire Konan, confirmed in a press release.

“Parents must confirm their children’s participation in writing no later than Friday (this) morning,” the school principal said in a press release, explaining that buses will be available to transport students to and from the stadium.

Cameroon hosts Kenya in the third round of qualifying at 5:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. Kenya time), with the return leg taking place three days later at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda. The Kenyan contingent arrived in Yaoundé yesterday.

Both Cameroon and Kenya remain unbeaten in Group 'J' and are tied with Kenya in second place on four points while the Lions are in third place. Zimbabwe went top of the group on Thursday after a 1-0 win over Namibia at the Orlando Stadium in South Africa. Zimbabwe has five points while Namibia remains bottom with no points after three games.

Cameroon started with a 1-0 home win against Namibia but failed to continue its winning streak after a goalless draw with Zimbabwe on September 10 in Kampala, Uganda.

Kenya, for its part, started its season with a 0-0 draw against Zimbabwe before narrowly winning 2-1 against Namibia in the second game.

Football authorities in Cameroon have called on fans to flock to the 42,500-seat Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium to cheer captain Vincent Aboubakar and his teammates to victory.

Fans are confident that Cameroon will win, a victory that, according to some fans, will serve to celebrate a happy end to the conflict between the Cameroon Football Association and the Ministry of Sports over the appointment of the new technical bench led by Belgian coach Marc Brys .

“Cameroon will win, with a goal from Carlos Baleba,” said Angel Ngwe, a fan who believes Kenya is not a very strong team compared to Cameroon.

“I don’t know any Kenyan soccer players, but I know marathon runners there,” she said.

Both teams had an impression of the venue on Thursday evening.
