Former Raptors coach threatens co-host on live TV

Don't get on the wrong side of Sam Mitchell.

The former Toronto Raptors coach-turned-NBA analyst got a little at odds with his co-host Chris Miles during a very awkward segment NBA Gametime Live on Friday evening. The two were coming off a highlight package that included Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr, who were being honored for winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, when things went wrong.

Miles noted that Kerr did not receive a medal for his work as Team USA men's basketball coach because coaches in no Olympic sport do not receive medals. He asked Mitchell his opinion, and the segment unraveled from there.

“I guess it just shows what international – how they value coaches. Not at all,” Mitchell said.

“I’m surprised coaches get a paycheck for this show,” Miles joked. “I think maybe you should do that pro bonomy friend.”

Mitchell took it personally.

“Why don’t you get some of the money you have?” Since you’re over there bragging about it,” Mitchell said.

Miles laughed as he tried to defuse the situation, but Mitchell didn't budge.

“Oh, I'm sorry. Did you rent out your beach house down in Florida during the hurricane? Or do I have to move on? “How about your townhouse?” continued Mitchell.

Again, Miles tried to move on as the situation became more and more uncomfortable.

“You want to call me,” Mitchell said. “I mean, come on. You scream broken and hungry. Let's just see it. You know, I know what you have and where you live, young guy. So you have to stop.”

Miles tuned in to the highlight package for the Warriors game, but Mitchell didn't miss it.

“I told you, young guy, you have to stop messing with me on national television. “I told you about it,” Mitchell said. “Hey, do I have to give out the address? Because you're not home right now.

Miles continued with the highlight package before Mitchell finally revealed his address during the segment.

Mitchell spent parts of five seasons coaching the Raptors before being fired in 2008 after an 8-9 start. According to Jalen Rose, he was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with Vince Carter during the 2004-05 season. Carter allegedly threw Mitchell to the ground during a scuffle in the training room, Rose said. Mitchell denies the incident ever happened.
