Jon Moxley Triumphs at AEW WrestleDream While Bryan Danielson Is in the Hospital – TJR Wrestling

The AEW WrestleDream main event featured former allies Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley in a fierce battle for the AEW World Championship.

Bryan Danielson won the AEW World Championship for the first time in his all-in career when he defeated Swerve Strickland to take gold. Just two weeks later he made his first title defense at All Out, where he retained the gold medal against Jack Perry, but that was just the beginning of his problems.

After that fight, Danielson was shockingly attacked by Blackpool Combat Club when Jon Moxley tried to suffocate him with a plastic bag. But Moxley's madness was not without method.

For weeks, Moxley had tried to talk to Darby Allin – a man with a guaranteed shot at the AEW World Title – and finally persuade Allin to a match with the World Title fight on the line.

Jon Moxley won that title match, and with Bryan Danielson vowing to end his full-time wrestling career after losing his gold, Moxley had a chance to stop the American Dragon's final countdown at WrestleDream.

In the final moments of the match, Moxley hit Bryan with the Death Rider, but Bryan kicked out after just one hit. Moxley told Bryan not to force him. Moxley hit a Gotch-style piledriver, sometimes called a cradle piledriver. Moxley went into a sleeper hold and took Bryan to the mat with Moxley's legs wrapped around his waist. Bryan sold it like he was unconscious, so referee Bryce Remsburg called for the bell. Jon Moxley was once again AEW World Champion for the fourth time in his career.

Jon Moxley winning the AEW World Title also means that Bryan Danielson's career as a full-time wrestler is over.

Bryan Danielson is attacked by Jon Moxley and his friends after the AEW World Title match

After the match was over, Jon Moxley won the AEW World Title. Claudio Castagnoli, Pac and Marina Shafir joined Moxley in the ring, so Moxley handed the AEW World Championship to Claudio, who put the title in a bag. Moxley had a plastic bag in his hand, but then Wheeler Yuta and Darby Allin (with a chair) appeared for the save, so Moxley's group briefly retreated. As Allin turned around, Yuta hit Allin with a running knee, so Yuta was with Moxley's group after all. Pac put his boot on Allin's throat and Shafir taped Allin's wrists to the ropes.

Moxley handed Yuta the plastic bag and then Danielson backed into Yuta, causing Yuta to put the plastic bag around Bryan's head. The crowd gasped. Yuta asked Bryan to stop moving. There were some security trying to get in and some other wrestlers, but Moxley's group fought them off. People like Jeff Jarrett and Private Party tried to help but were beaten up.

Claudio Castagnoli placed a steel chair around Danielson's neck and Moxley made a hand gesture, causing Claudio to stomp on the chair that was on Bryan's neck. The AEW locker room was finally empty. JR: “Where the hell have you been?” The babyface wrestlers went into the ring, so Moxley and his friends ran to the back of the arena. Darby Allin was freed from the tape securing him to the turnbuckle.

At this point, Bryan Danielson was placed on a board while emergency responders checked on him. Fans chanted “Thanks, Bryan” while Excalibur choked as he spoke. Tony Schiavone called this the worst scene he had ever seen in his life. JR called it a scary situation that affected so many people. They showed Bryan being looked at in the ring while Allin stood at ringside and Orange Cassidy looked stunned by everything. That was the end of the show.

During the AEW WrestleDream post-show press conference, Tony Schiavone said that Bryan Danielson was taken to the hospital and Tony Khan also accompanied him.

On social media, AEW posted this about the attack after the match.
