Utah Royals FC returns home to face Seattle Reign FC

HERRIMAN, Utah (Thursday, October 3, 2024) – Utah Royals FC (6-14-3, 21 points) returns to the Wasatch Front to host Seattle Reign FC (5-13-5, 20 points) on Sunday, October 13 at 3:00 p.m. MT.

Utah celebrates a dramatic 2-1 win on the road over Portland Thorns FC. Utah Royals FC is on a two-game winning streak and has the potential to extend it to three. Former Thorn Hannah Bethfort scored her first regular season goal of the season by hitting the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area. Mina Tanaka She also scored her first goal for the club since her summer transfer to the Royals, with a diving header from a free kick she took Claudia Zornoza which bounced off the crossbar. Utah finished the game with 56% possession and 5 more shots on goal than Portland.

The Royals' last meeting with Seattle came during the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup on the road in a 2-1 loss. Cameron Tucker scored Utah's only goal. The 2-1 loss followed a regular season game in Seattle that ended in a 1-1 draw. Ally Sentnor scored a goal after winning the ball high up the pitch and dribbling into the penalty area before ripping it into the top right corner. Utah remains in the playoff hunt by a narrow margin, and three points this weekend will keep the team afloat at the end of the season.

Seattle Reign FC is currently on a four-game losing streak and sits in 13th place in the table. The last win came on September 6th away at Angel City FC. Seattle most recently lost to Angel City FC at home on October 4th, and the LA team got revenge at Lumen Field. Former URFC head coach Laura Harvey is visiting Utah for the first time since leaving the club in 2019. Harvey won the 2022 NWSL Shield with Seattle, a perennial playoff contender, and will therefore be eager to make one final attempt to not finishing the season at the bottom of the table.

Following Sunday's game, the Royals travel to Los Angeles to take on Angel City FC on Sunday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. MT. The royals then return home for the final time of the 2024 season for Fan Appreciation Night on November 1 when Gotham FC comes to town. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT.
