Sarah Jessica Parker's husband Matthew Broderick has been offered the role in Sex and the City

On the This Life of Mine podcast with James Corden, Broderick explained that the offers didn't come directly from his wife, but from casting agents.

He said he always missed appearing on the show, of which his wife is the star and executive producer, because he was too busy.

“I wish I had done it or been there,” Broderick said: “It just never worked out.”

“I love this show and would have loved to be a part of it, but it just never worked out.”

He added: “Whenever there was a part I could do, I couldn't do it, that's basically all that happened.”

“Sex and the City” first aired in 1998 and ended in 2004 after six seasons. After two spin-off films, he returned to television screens in 2021 with the spin-off And Just Like That.

Parker returned, as did Kristin Davis as Charlotte York and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. Kim Cattrall did not return as Samantha Jones in the first season due to rumors of a feud with Parker, but appeared in a scene of her own in the next season.

Broderick and Parker, who first met in 1991, starred opposite each other in the play Plaza Suite in London's West End and on Broadway.

The Neil Simon production opened in London on January 17 and ran until April. In it, Broderick and Parker play three different couples at different moments of crisis in their relationships.

Broderick previously told The Telegraph that he and Parker always coordinated their roles to ensure the other was home with his three children when one of them needed to be away.

The couple have twins Tabitha and Marion, now 15, and 22-year-old James.
