Today is the deadline to register to vote on November 5th

Oregon voters who want to vote in the Nov. 5 election must register to vote by 11:59 p.m. today.

According to the State Department, there are already more than three million registered voters in Oregon. These voters have the opportunity to vote in the presidential election and participate in important elections and policies at the federal, state and local levels. These include contests for one of the most competitive seats in Congress, statewide races for secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general, and five key statewide measures.

In Portland, voters will take part in a historic election, electing a new mayor and 12 City Council members as the city adopts a new form of municipal government.

You can check to see if you are registered to vote or update your voting address by visiting oregonvotes.gov/myvote. Enter your first and last name as well as your date of birth and you will see whether your registration is current and which party you belong to, if any.

Oregon residents who do not have a valid and current driver's license, permit, or Oregon ID card must complete a paper voter registration card. You can obtain paper registration cards at the U.S. Post Office, Multnomah County library locations and the county elections building at 1040 SE Morrison St.

Counties will begin mailing ballots on Wednesday, which should arrive in voters' mailboxes soon after.

Voting in Oregon is easy: Fill out your ballot at home and then mail it in on Election Day; no stamp is required. Voters can also hand in their ballots in person at official voting locations on November 5th no later than 8:00 p.m.
